Is it time to worry? Orwellian world has arrived

Hi Hawks.

The problem I had with a bank because I didn't have a mobile phone to receive a password was the "beginning of the end of privacy" in my own little world.

A programme on the ABC recently, in regard to hackers accessing mobile phones, reinforced my belief that privacy is almost a thing of the past.  (Nick Xenophon was astounded!)

If the information is garnered by the "good guys" (police, etc)  is okay in my books.  But the "baddies" or people that could use info against people, companies, governments, etc is a great concern.

I don't carry a moblie phone. I have only recently acquired a non-smart mobile phone.

I do use emails, but not often and then mainly for ebay buying/selling. Still, I suppose there's a lot to be gleaned from even my meagre electronic footprint.

I don't like how the world is changing for the worse in so many areas and in a strange way, I'll not to too upset to leave it all behind one day.

I didn't realise I had a choice.

My life's in a database, somewhere.

Welcome to the technological revolution.

You can still have limited choices. Don't carry a smart-phone when you go out and I think it's possible to encrypt emails (but not for ebay usage, unfortunately)

The most interesting place I go is the supermarket.

Or possibly the ABC shop, but they're closing them, so that limits the extent of my exciting activities.

I'm Boring. I make dull look interesting. I sign up for free emails from online shops just so I'll get mail.

Don't try starting a conversation with me in the real world because it will, very quickly, leave you yawning and trying to think of an excuse to get away.

The only reason anyone would track me by my mobile phone signal would be to have advance warning that I was coming, so they could make a quick getaway.

This is what being over 40 looks like.

Be afraid, be very afraid... LOL.

I'm a bit like that, too.

When I go out shopping, I pay cash, and (almost) never use a card. There's a huge footprint left by people who pay for even their petrol or milk and bread  by using plastic cards.

To tell the truth, I really don't care if Walmart can track my spending habits, then send me an email with the relevant items offered.  I am a veteran, so Uncle Sam has a dossier on me (unless it burned up in a fire).  I am a card-carrying member of the Veterans' Administration, so they have a chart the size of the New York Phone Directory on me. I have a concealed weapon permit, so the County Sheriff has me on a list......

I use my credit card almost exclusively, to collect the reward points (this quarter I get some 15 cents back on petroleum.  Chase has been very good at minding my purchases (those porn DVDs from Denmark were quickly removed), so I have little worry there.

I have one of those cell phones that does nothing more than allow me to make or receive calls........and I only carry it while travelling.
