Politicians aiming high

Former Qld MP back in court for fraud

DISGRACED former Queensland MP Scott Driscoll is due in court to answer 16 fraud-related offences levelled against him.

THE 39-year-old will make his second appearance in Brisbane Magistrates on Monday after the Crime and Corruption Commission last month charged him with a range of offences, including soliciting secret commissions, fraud and falsification of records in early October.

Driscoll is accused of committing $725,000 worth of fraud offences and soliciting at least $400,000 in secret commissions between August 2011 and May 2013.

The former Liberal National Party (LNP) MP resigned from Queensland parliament in November 2013 after being found guilty by the ethics committee of misleading the House about his financial interests.

The committee also found he had not been honest about his role in the Queensland Retail Traders and Shopkeepers Association.

At his first court appearance last month, Driscoll made no indication of his plea and did not answer questions from reporters.

His wife, Emma Driscoll, has also been charged with related perjury and dishonesty offences.

How reassuring to know that our politicians don't aim very high.
