Muslim women have been banned from wearing face veils under an emergency law passed by Sri Lanka's president, days after more than 250 people were killed in series of bombings in the country's capital Colombo.
Maithripala Sirisena's office said any garment or item which obstructs the identification of a persons face would be barred.

I'm a big advocate about ppl being allowed to wear what they like, but if it hinders identification, then take it off.
Anyone could be hiding under one of those all-over coverings like the burqa.

seems like a knee jerk response to the bombings.
i didnt read that the bombers were all burqa wearing women.
just as easy to ban explosive vests.
they could easily be hidden under large coats or jumpers ect.

But suicide bombers can be men posing as Burqa wearing women.
And explosive vests are too bulky to hide under coats and/or jumpers.
I'm all for a knee jerk reaction.
Burqa wearers are forbidden in some banks here, I've noticed.
Same as bike riders have to remove their helmets.
