Lost sheep befriends giant ram statue in Great Southern town of Katanning -

A lost sheep has befriended a giant ram statue at a saleyard in Western Australia, standing by its side for the past nine days while remaining unclaimed.

The wether was first spotted last Tuesday at the Katannning Regional Saleyards, 300 kilometres south of Perth.

It is still unknown where it came from.

Saleyard manager Rod Bushell said at first they did not take any notice of the sheep, but after more than a week by the ram's side, it was starting to become well-known around the town.

"Even when people walk up to the statue, he just walks away for a little bit and then comes back," he said.

"He's just set up camp.

"When he's not near it, he's grazing the lawn nearby, and then the rest of the time he just sleeps between its legs."

Mr Bushell said the sheep had been drinking out of a nearby dam and eating grass to survive.

He said onlookers were curious to see how long the sheep would stand by the ram.

"We're a bit loathe to get too close to him, because at the moment it's a bit fascinating to see how long he'll stay there," he said.

Mr Bushell said if the sheep was looking for a new friend, he had timed it well.

After sitting in the shed at the saleyards for the past year, the statue has just been erected outside.

Awwww,   Poor sheepie is lonely.  Hope he's looked after and not on-sold.

That would be nice.

That's sad! I hope the sheep has enough to eat, it looks pretty barren there.
