Most supermarket 'fresh' fruit and veg is a ruddy plastic hazard, even apples and oranges packaged in flipping plastic containers

I have never undrstood why any one would buy a dubious plastic punnet of sliced mushrooms when there are fresh (supposedly) mushrooms available below to buy in the quantaties needed.

I know of time poor families where the frazzled working mums with kids will use any short cut for help and pre sliced/chopped   vegies are  a godsend.

I think it's more a greengrocers trick of getting rid of older mushies but don't know about the big 3 supermarkets.

They probably realize some buyers are short of time and there is a market for them. (as brighton suggests)

Or the lazy hubbies who try to cook when the missus isn't home.

I bought a punnet of those sliced mushies on Tuesday.

Saw this thread and went to check them.

Hubby has eaten the whole punnet.

Good thing I've kept up his life insurance, ain't it?
