CHECK YOUR FEES DUE**********

Auto listings during the month of March have been charged as new insertions and have copped the $1.50 fee, everyone needs to check their account charges and ring ebay to complain about this if it has happened to you.

Sounds ridiculous.  There seems to be so much confusion about these things, which is why I still haven't used this feature since being introduced, it's plain confusing and scary.

Have you contacted eBay Customer Support to try and work out what happened?  They may credit you for the error.  Even if you made a mistake or found their help pages confusing, they may still credit you as a gesture of goodwill.

Just got off the phone, another qualification to their policy with "good til cancel" means they get relisted after 30 days and count  as part of your 40 free listings in the new month.

If anyone used the unlimited free listings promotion with 'good til cancel" option, you are sitting on a ticking time bomb every 29 days.

Re: CHECK YOUR FEES DUE**********

Of course the GTC listings come off your free allocation every month, and if you don't have any left then you get charged.  That's the way it's always been for GTC listings.  You would have been better spending your time reading up on the rules for listing fees than on ringing ebay.

There are some advantages to using GTC listings (no work to relist them, you keep your selling history which may benefit you in best match) so there's a price tag attached.  Did you really expect to be able to list your item and have it run forever for free and never come off your free allocation?  If that was the case nobody would ever need to pay for a store.

You're misleading people by referring to them as auto listings.  GTC is an entirely different thing to the three free auto relists that many of us get.  There was a big discussion about this very recently but of course some sellers still refuse to read what the rules actually say.

Read this page on automatic relisting:  http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/relist.html#automatic

but especially this bit about halfway down:  Relisting your item automatically isn't available for Good 'Til Cancelled listings.

Yeah, why do it yourself when it can be done by the system.

Re: CHECK YOUR FEES DUE**********

You don't need to use the automatic relists for GTC anyway, because it is built in, that's why they call it GOOD TILL CANCELLED.  If you don't cancel the listing, it will automatically relist every 30 days and either it will use up one of your monthly freebies, or you will be charged a listing fee if you don't have any freebies left. This is nothing new, it has ALWAYS been this way.  That is why you should never use short term bonus features like free second category or free subtitle with GTC, because when they roll over, even if you have a free listing to cover the relist, it will not cover the added feature and you will be hit with a charge for that every 30 days.  There is nothing sinister or devious about this, it is standard operating procedure.

Cheers,

Penny

Re: CHECK YOUR FEES DUE**********

For anyone who doesn't understand the difference between automatically relisting and using GTC, when you auto relist you get a brand new listing each time it relists, with a brand new item number. GTC listings aren't actually a RE-list - they are the same listing that lasts until you cancel it (or until it sells), with the same item number, which is why they keep the selling history and a buyer can watch it month after month without having to find the new listing for it.  While it's still the same listing, you're charged for it every 30 days.

Moral of the story: if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is - so CHECK IT OUT!!!
