I'm not a prude however... NSFW

Vivid Raw F*** It Brown Mouth Masturbator,

Seems weird to know that my little 8 year old neice checks out ebay. The above item does not use asterisks in the heading.

brerrabit, not relevant weather she was by herself or not - Ebay is not a toy, not for children, - end of story.

Did you actually think sellers with sex toys and used undies are not going to sell their stuff  (they obviously have a market for it) just in case a child came on line and saw their wares?

Yeah, good luck with that.

If you can't control your minor from doing what is not permitted by ebay, I'd say you have very little chance of stopping adults from doing what is legal by law and permitted by ebay.

@staypeachywrote:
so what kids like to look around its the internet its a shopping site not a porn site ithought

It's an 18+ site. Anyone under 18 should not be anywhere near an 18+ site. End of story.

Where do you get the idea that it's an 18+ site? There are no warnings anywhere that I can see about it not being suitable for under 18's. I'm sure the restrictions on not having an account until you're 18 are more to do with the legalities of minors buying online. Years ago when you had to sign in to the 'adult' section, minors still weren't allowed to have an account even though the general public never saw that section, and most wouldn't have even known about it.

When I joined ebay....back in the age of the dinosaur.....it was in the agreement.

I have no idea whether it still is but it is always accepted that it is only for over 18s.

I'd agree Brer.

Protection of our precious young ones will, in many cases, come down to personal ethos and responsibility anyway. Enter the mighty dollar and some people are devoid of any normal human response to protect the vulnerable.

Perhaps eBay should be looking at a dedicated Adults Only section that requires additional steps for entry. That way the responsibility lies squarely with mums n dads. No confusion, no ambiguity, no debate.

Kids need to be kids for as long as we can allow them. I'd like to see it happen.

Melina.

I believe it used to be that way.  You had to do that extra step to sign in to the adult section.  I'd been on ebay quite a while before I even knew it existed, that's how well it was hidden.

@ Lyndal, just because you have to be 18 to sign up doesn't mean that nobody else can view it.  If it's an 'adult only' site then there should be warnings on the home page about it containing adult content so that parents know not to let their kids look (without being signed in).  Not to mention that if it's an adults only site then they shouldn't be paying google to show ads for ebay items when people are browsing other sites.

Re: I'm not a prude however... NSFW

I'm out of my depth here. I don't know what NSFW stands for & I didn't even know ebay had an adults only section, I haven't noticed any ads about it.

But if there is such a section (and I'll take everyone's word there must be) then it would put it on a par with some of the other sales sites I have seen. The main one I use os COTD and every now & again I get emails announcing sales in-I forget the name of the section now- but they stipulate adults only. The thing is, I am sure anyone of any age could log into it if they tried.

I'm sure there are filters people can get for children's browsing. I used to teach and one day after school-about 4.30pm- I naughtily logged into ebay just to have a quick look at a couple of items-a ladies bike, & up came a message that I had tried to enter a banned sex site. I was so embarrassed as those infringement notices go straight to the principal.Smiley Embarassed

But the point is, the site shut down & I was blocked. After that, all ebay/facebook etc was blocked en masse.

Parents can get themselves similar programs I am sure.
