New payment method coming to eBay.

Received an email today that eBay will be introducing a new payment method from Adyen.

At first glance it seems it will be very similar to PayPal.

Hope they are not planning on phasing out PayPal.

The transition to full payments intermediation will be a multi-year journey. eBay will begin intermediation on a small scale in North America starting in the second half of 2018, expanding in 2019 under the terms of the Operating Agreement with PayPal. In 2021, we expect to have transitioned a majority of Marketplace customers to the new payments experience.

Re: New payment method coming to eBay.

eBay still kept them as the primary payment option. In fact, the only payment option, as they were required to process at least 80% of all sales via PayPal as part of their Paypal Operating Agreement. That's why they ditched Paymate, et al.

They will survive, sure, but their market share will drop, at least initially. If you're an SME whose primary marketplace is eBay, and you're offered a reduction in the fees you're getting charged - even if that's only 1% - then it makes no business sense to remain with your existing payment processor. Particularly if you're being forced to provide eBay with your financial information anyway, which is what the statement on eBay's website indicates.

TL;DR Adyen do not charge a fee directly for their services. Paypal do charge a fee for their services. FVF notwithstanding, the net result for most savvy business people is that they will go with the lower cost option that's run by a very well respected payment processor that was built on business principles, not on a glorified money transfer service. Yes there will be pain initially for some, but if you're still using PayPal on your website then there's no reason to change. The only change you need to make is to provide eBay with financial information, most of which they already had anyway.

You can't make a complaint against PayPal either via the FOS. They simply point to the terms and conditions that you signed up to that indicate you have to take them to court if you want to complain. Oh and that court is in California.

Re: New payment method coming to eBay.

It's AFCA now not the FSO and they do specify that they deal with Paypal complaints, so it matters not that Paypal is based in California.

In relation to their T&C's if you have run foul of them, then wouldn't matter if they were based in California or Caloundra, you'd still be up the creek without a paddle.

Of course you can complain here in Australia......Paypal holds an Australian Financial Services Licence and are regulated under the Australian Banking System.

Perhaps they're banning people who get paid for goods under 'family & friends'. A lot of that happens on facebook.

I can't see why that would worry Paypal, since there no protection under that payment method - eBay could get shirty about it though, if it was an off-eBay transaction.

They don't get any fees from f&f so it would worry them a lot.

If you send within Australia, and it's from a linked bank account or from a Paypal balance it's still free Tippy.

Re: New payment method coming to eBay.

This new payment deal suck really bad. we pay ebay fee at  7.6% and paypal fee at 2.5% , now ebay wants to get rid of paypal and only use ebay system, they still charge us for 2.5% fee as well. so total we have to pay 10.1%..

they are not helping anyone, ebay wants to management the payment and gain extra 2.5% from us, SHOULDNT THEY takeaway the paypal fee, if they are managing the payment method themselves.they just gain extra 2.5% for themselves. as a seller, we DONT GET ANY BENEFIT but rather headaches, this system is corrupted so bad. ebay should STOP trying to suck for money from us.

it takes them INSTANTLY to get thier final fee which deduct instantly when a item is sold, rather than pay monthly fee as we always have been.. and INSTANTLY refund buyer, but how about our credit fee ? it takes them 7 days to credit back final fee on a item when some buyer is stupid an purchase WRONG item. . they SUCK your money fast and refund your fee slowly, they dont want to lose a single cent in any transaction. just go back to the old system.. you know what they say "DONT FIX SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKEN!!!"
