What amount are Ebay fees based on?

Hi. As a seller if I give a discount to a buyer after the auction (which I place in the buyers invoice) has finished does Ebay charge me fees based on the original amount or the new amount resulting from my discount ? Thanks.

Re: What amount are Ebay fees based on?

You can only discount against postage not the item price itself.

Your fees will be based on the total price (incl postage) that your buyer pays. ie the invoice amount.

So if you deduct for postage on the invoice then your fees will be reduced accordingly.

just curious do you tell your buyers in advance thats what you will do, or do you do it off the cuff? and if so, why are you discounting when the buyer has already agreed to pay amount? its very generous, ive not heard of a seller doing this before. very interested

I will sometimes discount if a buyer makes several purchases which, combined, would have attracted a discount. I also refund excess postage. I am fairly sure I'm not alone.

I consider it to be honest. But then I don't automatically refund scammers if they claim INAD. Which, btw, doesn't stop them leaving a neg.
