Incorrect.

eBay brought in the strike system which is effective immediately.

Rather than sellers leaving negs in which the buyer can still buy or bid in the last few minutes anyway, you now open an unpaid item case and buyer gets a strike for each item. Two or more strikes they can't bid or buy from sellers with blocks.

Suggest you set blocks on your account if you haven't, it weeds out non-payers.

... and just to add to that...

If you leave the buyer a false positive feedback then it is against ebay policy and if the buyer complains the feedback will be removed and you will be slapped with a policy violation.

False positive is leaving positive feedback (all you can leave for a buyer) and then writing a negative comment something like "never paid".

So much better to use the Unpaid Item Dispute (UID) process that is in place.

Then make sure you have your auto-blocks in place to block buyers/bidders who have two or more unpaid item strikes inside a 12-month period. As described above this will weed out the serial non-payers.

it doese protect them if you look at a persons feedback and see negatives against them and read them it gives you a better perspective of that person you are dealing with without the negative feedback they are protected  because you dont know you are dealing with a time wasting scumbag

Re: why does ebay protect non payers by blocking them negative feedback

If you use the NPB process every time and take advantage of the block system provided, you can automatically block buyers with 2 strikes in the last year, and they simply cannot buy from you or bid on your auctions.  You don't even need to check their feedback, which is nt a reliabel way of vetting buyers because there is no opportunity to do this anyway if they use BN or bid at the last minute.

As much as I hate the one-sided feedback system, I have to admit, the blocking system is a far more effective way of eliminating NPBs, as long as you set your blocks and follow the NPB process every time.

Cheers,

Penny

by following through with a NPB report you not only help yourself from this non paying buyer your helping all the other sellers who have set their blocks.

too many sellers dont do a NPB report and let these guys get away with it. leaving them to repeat the process on another seller.

What is the point in reading someone's feedback AFTER they've bought? Not much you can do about it then. They could have 100 negatives, yet there is nothing you can do about it after they've bought.

The only time checking feedback helps is if you run auctions and the buyer bids early. You have time to check before the auction ends and take appropriate action. If they bid at the last second or buy it now, there is jack you can do about it. As mentioned, far better off having blocks in place to weed the serial pests out. Plus, as also mentioned, use the non paying buyer dispute route in the event they don't pay. You get your fees back and the buyer realises there are a lot of sellers they can no longer buy from.
