Royal Copenhagen - dating this backstamp

Happy Easter All.

I have a few pieces of Royal Copenhagen that I am listing - the backstamp of one is in attached pic.

It seems to me from reference to R/C website that the backstamp is 1889-1922; it certainly seems pre the one they introduced 1935.  My only doubts with saying mine are 1889-1922 is that I am wondering why they do not give a backmark for 1923-1934??

Hoping someone can confirm (or otherwise)  that this plate's backstamp dates it as 1889-1922.

Thank you.

I agree - mine does look new in comparison; mine is in lovely condition - was collected by a friend 10-15yrs ago.

Have attached photo of the same backmark on a saucer which looks as though has had a little more wear.

Re: Royal Copenhagen - dating this backstamp

This attachment is of the 22cm plate - I have another with same backstamp but different painter.  I'll attach a pic of the saucer next.

The pattern is Blue Fluted Plain for the plates at least; the saucer has a gold rim so might be called something else.

Picture of saucer front.

Thanks for your interest - I had been going cross eyed trying to decide the dates by various searches and was wanting to bounce it off someone else.

It could simply be that they no longer bother to date mark their dinner ware - such as Blue Fluted - your pattern.  I can't see any of the dots or slashes that were used to date this backstamp up to 2004 - but then I can't find anything on the Internet for marks 2004 onwards - so perhaps they stopped marking then?

gives the numbers of the individual pieces. For pieces in good condition (that were not made in Thailand as RC is now - have no idea if they still make Blue Fluted) it probably does not matter much - it is after all useful ware.

Re: Royal Copenhagen - dating this backstamp

It appears your saucer with the gold edge is pattern no 1.

Scroll to the picture in the makers mark link you have.

I am guessing 1923 mark was used for anything beyond up until 1935. Probably just the site has omitted it.

Yours definitely look like 1989-1922.

Thank you.  I'm comfortable that these are not modern pieces - the backstamp info given by RC on their website shows that the post 1935 marks include [DENMARK] and they give the dates for up to 2014..

With regards the pattern RC also call it their Pattern No 1 and it is still in production.

What has also been confusing for me is that in the same lot are 6 sideplates with exactly the same painted pattern but the plate profile is not 'fluted' and they were made 1970-1983 by Bing & Grondahl (who merged into RC in 1987). I am thinking that the pattern itself might be a bit generic as in "Blue Willow" which has been used by lots of companies - although RC in the above link lay claim to having adapted a Chinese inspired design in the 1700s.

All this is confusing to me in the nicest way - I love finding out about things.
