Albo creates Labor leadership speculation as Bill Shorton stumbles

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/jun/24/shorten-plays-down-talk-of-rift-with-albanese...

Anothony Albanese appears to be targetting Bill Shortens leadership as the Labor party realises it faces an uphill battle to win the next election if it retains Shorten as leader of the party. Shorten is regularly trailing Malcolm Turnbul as preffered leader in opinion polls and  recent stumbles such as his latest " captains Call " are fuelling speculation that its time for Shoten to go.

Personally speaking,  Shorten getting the shove from Labor leadership cant come soon enough for me. The guy is untrustworthy and doesnt have the leadership qualities to represent Australia on the international stage. Labor have several talented people who would have the skills, demenour and intelligence to make suitable alternative Prime Ministers. Why continue on with a dweeb like Shorten. ?

Personally for me anyone that wants to be a politician is no good for the job.
The problem with modern politics is the people that want to be politicians.

with the liberal coalition kicking so many own goals in the last year they jump on anything even slightly news worthy from the labor party.

maybe its something but, dont the labor party need to win an election before they can do or not do anything?

labor are not leading the polls by landslide margins.

could well be another hung parliment after the next election where whoever forms govt are unable to do anything without bribing the crossbench.

Why continue on with a dweeb like Turnbull or Whine or Morrison or Bishop or any other LNP front bencher. How long before Abbott gets the knife out. Turnbull may be more popolar than Shorten as preferred PM, but, that won't win the LNP an election

Maybe ??? ...................The problem for Labor is that little Billy is becoming more desperate and accident prone, the more unpopular he becomes. Recent leadership rumblings within Labor are only amplifying the obvious problems. It only takes a few stumbles such as today's embarrassing back flip on his " captains call " " on the run"  tax policy , for Labor to be seen as opportunistic, rudderless ( pun intended )  wanna be's with no real backbone or policies. ( who would have thought ....Smiley Very Happy  ).

In all seriousness, if Labor want to capitalise on the lead they currently have in the polls, they need to dump Shorten now and give the new leader 12 months to settle in before the next election. If they dither around, they run the risk of Shorten continuing to fluff things up, dragging the rest of the party down and having to go to an election with leadership questions hanging over the party, a lame duck, accident prone leader and a narrowing of the gap between party primary votes.

If they wait a few more months to dump Shorten and replace him with some-one more competent, they start to hark back to the Rudd, Gillard, Rudd chaos with little billy sitting on the back bench sniping away as per Abbott. The only difference is that Shorten still has more credability than Abbott, making the problem much worse than that of the Liberals, as no-one really thinks Abbott is a serious contender any more.

That's not good for Labor and its not good for the country if they happen to win the next election.

Its time to for Albo to get the knives sharpened up !!!

the whole Albo/Shorten thing is just a beat up by the press. maybe a distraction for all the problems going on within the LNP, like abbott's threat to cross the floor on energy policies

I,m sorry Debra, but to blame the media for Labors current woes is a bit short sighted. Shorten has trailed Turnbull as preffered prime minister in the polls for months now. Considering that Turnbull has not exactly been the most inspirational prime minister Australia has had, it is a damning reflection on Shortens lack of character, moral fibre and abilities that he is not streets ahead of Turnbull.

Two things that are taken as a given is that a week is a long time in politics, a year is a lifetime and secondly that disunity is death. With twelve months left until the next election, Labor faces a tough choice. Does it dump dweeby Shoten now and go to the election with a new, fresh leadership team, giving it some chance of holding onto the lead it currently has in primary vote or does it try to hang on with Shorten as leader and have Albo back stabbing and sniping all the way to the election ?

Really its a no brainer..........Shorten has to go, or Labor faces the reality of losing what the polls tell us should be an easy election win.  !!!

back stabbing and sniping?

ok, so this week we saw a tiny bit of 'maybe' friction between albo and bill, but come on, its hardly in the same league as the turnbull vs abbott in-fighting is it.

plus add in barnaby and a few others sent to the sin bin under malcolms leadership who are busy plotting his demise.

i dont see huge rumblings of disharmony in labor ranks, maybe after the next election should bill flop, but then i'd fully expect bill to go anyway if that happens.

this week will be long forgotten by all by election day, maybe some new nation shattering stuff up will happen closer to election day, by either side, who knows
