Yes icyfroth, manipulation by big business is the only likely culprit

for the state we have found ourselves in.

Politicians have always been just glorified hand puppets.

Which we are. Easily fooled by the promises and perfidy of our elected governments.

Many Pollies may go into office with high ideals of serving the people that elected them but let themselves be seduced by Big Business offering them large amounts of money to help government  keep ahead of their crippling loan commitments/debt repayments.

Which means taxing taxing taxing even if there's no-one left to keep up the tax payments.
