This would never have happened in the days of Sir Joh (instert sarcasm here)

Oscar? Is that you?
I noticed it took 4 police officers to subdue a man who had no legs.
They train 'em well up there

So what if they were threatened (by a legless man), that is no reason for punching him.
A percentage of police officers is threatened every day.
Leopards brutal police officers do not change their spots mentality.

'alleged' thief. Or has everyone forgotten our justice system?
Innocent until proven guilty. Just sayin'

It just seems to me that the people actually present and witnessing his arrest did seem to think the police were using excessive force.
It's hard to tell from a video but the comments from the witnesses show that.
Of course he is the one on multiple assault charges. It's not possible for him to charge the police.

He's the one up on multiple assault charges...... plain and simple.
Without legs..... he was able to commit multiple acts of severe assault himself....
surely you aren't that naive!!
lets just see how many of those assault charges hold up in court.
its a well known fact that they pile heaps of charges on (usually assaulting police and resisting arrest) and bargain down so they end up getting the conviction for the one or two provable offences and save money in court costs and get commendations for their arrest/conviction ratios.

I don't understand why people resist arrest......... they look like children throwing a tantrum.
This event also occurred during the G20 weekend......seriously....... anyone who continues to defend this lowlife needs a reality check.
It is completely irrelevant when this crime occurred.
If a child throws a tantrum, in no way should they be assaulted.
I have not seen anyone defending the people who were arrested, some are appalled at the level of force used on them.
Why is the man being called a "lowlife"? Because he committed a crime?
If that is the case many people, including Nelson Mandela, should be labelled as lowlifes.
Here are some Australian politicians for a start.

I have bullet hole stickers on my caravan, on hubbys bike helmet and on a car.
The t-shirts have absolutely nothing to do with this thread.
See my post 183.
It's hypocritical to think it's ok to market toddler's t-shirts with bullet holes printed on the back, implying violence against children, but then crying police brutality when violence is used to subdue an out of control and abusive offender.
i think you were just looking for something, anything, to discredit her and her opinion of this incident and you remembered those tshirts and thought 'aha! gotcha!' and went with that. .
its just nonsense.

This whole thread is nonsense.
Donna picked up a video on youtube which appeared to illustrate police brutality but without further context , had an "aha gotcha moment" and thought she'd use it to stir up a bit of anti-police sentiment on these boards. For reasons of her own, no doubt.
this thread is a discussion on a current news event.
The OP has stated she believes this to be a case of excessive force.
You and your sock puppet id post news articles all the time and give your opinions on them.
Are you trying to stir up anti *insert relevant topic* feelings on the boards for reasons of your own when you do that?
Only one person here has displayed a hate all police sentiment, everyone else has displayed a hate some police cultures of excessive force and cover ups.

I haven't seen much of it but I am guessing there is more to it.
It's an unusual shopping centre to see that happening.

i have watched quite afew of those videos - i cannot believe some of the stuff your cops do, and even more shocking is they do it blatantly knowing full well they will get away with it.

It happens regularly in Queensland, and today is the tenth anniversary of the Mulrunji Doomadgee killing death in custody. A horrific and shameful incident in Queensland's history.
Nothing much has changed since Petersen's time.

Well, I don't see it much............. but I guess at least they didn't shoot him, like the other guy yesterday?

who knows. hard to tell without seeing everything.
Police also said the man and woman are facing a range of charges, including entering a premise with intent, stealing, seriously assaulting police and obstructing police.
Mr Leavers said when the camera was not rolling, the officers initially handcuffed the man and then released him to allow to reattach his prosthetics legs, which had fallen off.
It was at this point the man allegedly became violent, which was captured on camera.
"We know everything is under CCTV; we have nothing to fear," he said.
"These people had an opportunity to either comply with police and we know that is not the case and they acted up for the cameras."
