After about 2 years The 457′s after learning all the knowledge got sent back to work from our Indian offshore office, with the specialized local knowledge they gained here. Australia loses twice – Highly skilled architects now unemployed, and the jobs not even in Australia any more.
The only winner was the corporate that did it. One of the architects I worked with had to move to the ACT since there wasn’t much work left in VIC, even tho his daughter was studying here.
If I was an employer I’d be very happy with the current arrangement, a perfect working arrangement.

This is the real story.
...Exactly right. These visas are still INCREASING in number but just less fast than when the economy was going gang busters.
Still, the increasing ease in applying for these visas is destroying the incentive for employers to train or re-train locals, which will become more and more obvious to everyone, even the most stupid, as the job market weakens with the end of the 100 year mining boom over the next couple of years.
But that’s Tony and Co’s plan isn’t it – smash whatever little bargaining power is left for employees, put them completely at the mercy of their bosses.
