Why do unsuccessful sales still show up in quantity sold for a listing?

On any listing, Ebay show you how many have been sold of that item. One thing I have noticed is that even cancelled sales, unpaid item transactions etc, still show up on this list. Why is that? The sale hasn't been completed so it shouldn't count as beign 'sold'.

If you are looking at completed listings it is not a sold list but the completed listings list.

If you are referring to quantity sold, the eBay software probably only picks up the sold and doesn't bother to adjust if unpaid.

It shouldn't but eBay "logic" would be that the listing was "purchased" so it counts as a sale,(it doesn't matter to

them if it was then cancelled or not completed in another way)stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif

Any items that you do a partial refund on also stays in your lists as according to their logic it hasn't been

fully paid for,Who knows.gif

It bumps up the figures and makes things look better than they really are. A bit like including the cost of postage in the value of sold items. It pumps up the figures and makes you think you are selling more than you really are.
