The most recent (March 2013) review of the literature by the EFSA http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/supporting/pub/399e.htm

concludes that “There is no consistent evidence that aspartame has adverse effects, either in healthy individuals or in potentially susceptible groups …”

I know that too much or any artificial sweetener gives me migraines. 😞

There is no known cause for dementia. I would guess there are a lot of people now who have dementia that have never taken aspartame (Sugarine).

it is in many things we forget to look at.... diet coke, other fizzy drinks......

People are more at risk of dementia if they belong to a group who lack synaptic stimulation interspersed alternately with physical activity

I know. My parents never drank any of those things, nor used artificial sugar. My Mum is in her 90's and I would say a lot of that generation didn't drink diet soft drinks etc either (if they were even available in their younger days).. but they still get/got dementia.

I avoid anything with aspartame in it also.
