What is the difference between pickle relish and chutney

In your own thoughts please, I mean what do you think is the difference without google?

The reason I ask is I make chilli pickle (have been doing for about 30 years) and we have an abundance of chillies so my husband says I should make relish. Not to try a different recipe, he told me relish was different.

What do you think?

What is the difference between pickle relish and chutney

This is Soulart's Chilli Jam Recipe

I have made it a couple of times and it's really good.  It wouldn't use up many of your chillis though.

Chilli Jam

From Soulart

about 6 ripe tomatoes

2 tbls olive oil

2 tbls red wine vinegar

2 tbls fish sauce

2 tsps crushed garlic

6 tsps chopped chilli

2 tsps chopped ginger

1 tsp tumeric

2 heaped tbls brown sugar

combine all ingredients in a heavy based saucepan....bring to the boil then reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

pour into clean glass jar and store in fridge.

What is the difference between pickle relish and chutney

My dad used to make really good relish, I always thought the difference was it was a bit sweeter than chutney. I could be wrong though.

Never made chilli pickle before.

To me pickle relish is made with cauliflower, mustard, turmeric and stuff.

Chutney is made with fruit and spices and stuff.

In my house, anyway

Note the technical term 'stuff'

What is the difference between pickle relish and chutney

tomato relish - tomato's onions, curry powder, mustard powder  - used to make that when tomatoes were 50c a kilo.

Have bought mango chutney - mango, sultanas and stuff

Pickle - sliced vege in a brine type liquid.

When I was a child don't remember any 'chutney's.

Stuff is a good word, stawka. Otherwise we would have to have recipes in our head for relish, chutney's and pickles to be able to list all the ingredients (without googling etc as per instructions in op) in them

I don't know really but I thought pickle was just something that had been pickled/preserved like a pickled onion or gherkin.

Relish is smoother and sort of like a chilli jam and chutney what be more like a chunky pickle/relish and spicy fruity. Hmmm
