eBay fees nearly 20% total

I have been selling on eBay for more than 12 years and this year is don’t make profit at all through eBay, because of covid the sale went down and their fees went up so much. As the don’t use PayPal they charge fees total to 20%. So we have to be aware of their fee before selling. Thinking that they are cheap things to buy on eBay, we cannot do it anymore . We have to sale extra 20% to cover the fee they charge. It’s ridiculous. I may think to quit eBay for good. Because you are working for them instead for your self.

Yes Ebay fees well over 20% by the time you add it all up , monthly fees, selling fees,  fees on postage, buyer change of mind fees and return  postage costs  that you pay for in the Ebay slave business partner "scheme"  and the  Ebay case manager  monkeys that rort their business partners . It's probably closer 50%  plus all the time you waste. Give it up.

Re: eBay fees nearly 20% total

You've sold 17 items in 3 months. Close your store. If you are on managed payments, you get 250,000 free listings a month, so for a lot of sellers these days, having a store isn't really worth it. The small amount you'd be saving on FVF's by having a store wouldn't be worth it when you don't have a high sell rate. You'd be paying more in store fees than you're saving in FVF's

I'm also wondering, why are you paying postage costs for a change of mind return? The buyer should be paying that, unless you're some big super store which chooses to, which you're not. Change that in your listings so buyers have to pay the return costs for change of mind. You shouldn't have to pay for their trigger fingers.

Doing these 2 things alone will save you a packet each month.

Indeed, at least two of those fees are optional, so if you choose to opt into them, don’t complain you are paying them.

You certainly have a lot of garbage sale ‘stuff’ listed for someone advising give it up

Incorrect that it is 13.5% with a store, you need to include store fees and FVF, So between 15  to 18%

???

13.5% is the FVF.

So FVF cannot be extra

Re: eBay fees nearly 20% total

But the OP and some other posters are not talking about FVF only, they are talking about total fees. I have a basic store and in my seller hub I am looking at 16.1% total 'selling fees' for the last 31 days. That is likely because some items are in lower FVF bands.

So, the OP is technically quite correct if they have a store, as pointed out by many posters.

Re: eBay fees nearly 20% total

I want to say to the OP that obviously you specialise in these items so maybe you need to also find a cheaper supplier to raise your profit margin if you want to continue in this segment.  And are you using MyPost Business to reduce shipping costs?  I've managed to recently get on band 5 discount which I am very happy about.

Ultimately, if eBay isn't working out for you then you need to add more sales channels.  Make yourself a website, might be worth talking directly to shops in person to see if you can setup an arrangement.  Contact shops through Facebook also.

Re: eBay fees nearly 20% total

The OP was leaving ebay in February apparently, yet they are still selling, including numerous now banned items in Australia (single use shopping bags, disposable plastic drinking cups, etc). Obviously the fees weren't an issue after all.

Re: eBay fees nearly 20% total

I had a quick look and from what little I know regarding what they banned the items they sell are allowed. Happy to stand corrected if I missed something. Regarding plastic cups I don't think there is any issues with those being banned.
