I am selling an iPhone brand new in box. Any chance buyer might ask and receive a refund?

Hi everyone.

I just received a replacement iPhone.  The one I originally purchased had speaker issues that couldn't be resolved so I received a brand new phone, not repaired or refurbished, but brand new a few days ago.  It's still in the delivery box from Apple Australia.  I was going to open the delivery box in front of the buyer so they know it's brand new and the box has my name and address on it so they know it didn't fall off a truck.

I'm going to list it on ebay but after reading some of the threads, I'm afraid any buyer can ask for a refund and I'll have to have the phone returned to me used.  Is this a possibility?

I would suggest you sell at BIN, immediate payment required. Australia only. Set your postage to Australia only, and also exclude all other regions.

Ignore/discount offers that offer more than you're asking, those that want the phone sent overseas, those that want the phone sent to a different address than their registration...

Be wary of claims of payment that don't show in eBay, be aware that eBay will hold your funds for 30 days (as a new seller), but you will still be expected to post within your stated handling time.

eBay claim to guarantee payments once they are showing in your account and I have found this to be the case.

Short answer - yes.

As a presumably new seller, you will be targetted by scammers.

Are you selling the replacement or the broken one? If the replacement, why are you keeping the broken one?

Has it magically repaired itself? Are you looking to make a quick buck on the freebie?

Hi Dave.  Thanks for your reply.  Apple took the old one from me and gave me a brand new iPhone, so not a freebie at all, but I am willing to sell it at a slight discount so I can buy the 13 because I'll be using it to film professionally and can't afford to have a model with any potential issues.  Loss of filming time means losing money.  That said, I know most people haven't had any issues whatsoever with the 12.

I've sold on the US site before a while back and a long time member but I can't transfer my buying/selling history, thus, my US account to Australia, so had to start fresh.

Thank you, Dave.

"Yes" has me a little nervous.  I'll try other methods first like friends/family.  But thanks so much for the information and ways to keep safe.  I would probably hesitate to buy this myself if the seller were new like me.  I'll also try local pick up only to alleviate any concerns about the purchase.

Cheers.
