If, as buyer I offfer (say) $100 and the seller accepts, obviously I'm stuck with my offer. However, if there is a counter-offer from the seller and I now think my offer was too generous, does the counter-offer free me from my offer?
Both cannot happen. Once the seller accepts, the item is sold.
Either the seller accepts your offer, counters your offer or rejects it.
If a counter offer is made, it then becomes up to you whether you accept or not.
And if you accept, the item is sold.
