Case on hold to allow seller more time to reach amicable resolution

I purchased an item and was sent the wrong item. I asked to return the item as it was the wrong item and unusable. The seller didn't respond so the case was escalated to ebay. Now the case has been put on hold for another week to allow the seller to reach an amicable resolution.

Really? It is pretty straight forward to me. I purchased an item, I received a different item that was unusable. I should be entitiled to return the item. Now the seller is trying to convince me that I can use hinged pendant lockets as earrings, does anybody want to buy 25 pairs of earrings that are obviously hinged lockets! They are hideous! I paid for earrings, not lockets! Why cant I return an item that is not as described?

If you bought a office chair and received a toilet seat would that be okay? Technically they are both seats, and with a bit of difficulty you could sit on a toilet seat at your desk and it wouldn't look right...
