NON-COMPLIANT HAIR DRYER

This morning I received a Konka hair dryer from an eBay seller that is non-compliant to Australian standards.  I was lead to believe they were an Australian seller & would be aware of the Australian Standards before posting on eBay.   It has an overseas plug fitted, although an Australian adaptor was in the box.  Everything is written in what I guess is Asian.  None of this was mentioned in the seller's listing.  The hair dryer doesn't have the normal electrocution tag attached to the power cord.  It doesn't have any markings to state it is compliant AS/NZS 60335.2.23.  I won't be using it as I don't want to trip my electrical circuit.  I sent a message to the seller & waiting their reply.  Why do sellers get away with listing ILLEGAL items?  I would appreciate any advise.

"I was lead to believe they were an Australian seller "

As much as the seller may be registered in Malaysia, the item was listed  for sale on  the Australian site and the ad shows based in Ferntree Gully , VIC , shipped by Australia Post and a map of Australia underneath showing postage times within Australia.  This goes in your favour,  presuming the item was posted from a warehouse in Australia ?

eBay's policy  update as from 2nd May 2025 shows

The following types of items are not allowed:

Products where the sale of the product is prohibited by law or regulation, including products failing to comply with Australian Mandatory Safety Standards  > The link even takes you to the ACCC site

So I  recommend you open an 'item not as described' claim  through eBay's Money Back Guarantee,

based on that.

You can ask eBay to step in after 3 days and and I'd be very surprised if you didn't receive a refund

Let us know how you go.

To add, the only listings and completed listings that show up when I search for that brand of hair dryer shows

Location: Malaysia Member since: 07 January 2022

And they have neg feedback from someone else stating the seller is a dodgy dropshipper

The description also states

Plug standard - Chinese

If thar *is* the listing in question, all the information is there that this is not from an Australia seller and the hairdryer is not safe to use here

What is the item number?

Where is the seller registered?

No use messaging a dodgy seller, if what you were sent is not was what in the listing, you open and follow through with an item not as described dispute

eBay do not vet listings

Dodgy sellers get away with it because buyers buy without checking feedback or reading descriptions and then fail to open an appropriate dispute
