Extra fees & Global Shipping Programme

I want to buy an item made of wood, and the seller is using the Global Shipping Programme. If that involves UPS, then, from what I've been told, UPS will hold onto the item and ask for brokerage fees, etc., to allow its release.

The GSP terms and conditions say: 'Third party brokerage fees (including advancement and disbursement charges and customs brokers handling and filing fees' will be included with the import charges', but no such charges appear at checkout.

Does this mean I can go ahead and buy the item without expecting any additional costs? The actual cost of the item is below the limit my country allows, so there won't be any value tax charged for that.

If the item is below the $1,000 threshold (including postage) then there will be no GST/customs charges.

Be aware though that the GSP may well repack your item and it could easily take a round tour of the US/world before it gets to you.

Once it gets to Oz Fedex takes over but often passes the parcel to AP for delivery.
