What if a seller insists on Paypal payment 3 days after auction end but it's an item to be picked up after that time?

I have bought an item and the seller insists on Paypal payment within 3 days of auction end. However, I can't get to pick it up until the weekend and I'm sure there is be no Paypal protection on a pick up item if it is not as described. I would like to pay cash when I see the item. They say they are happy to cancel the sale if I don't want to pay with Paypal before pick up.
The seller insists that they offer Paypal protection.
They also offer COD or bank transfer.
Is it dodgy and should I agree to a cancellation?
