What to do about feedback extortion?

A friend has asked advice on behalf of her sister who bought an item which is faulty. The seller initially refused a refund but has now relented. However, the refund is conditional on return of the item, naturally, and on receipt of positive feedback.

She has reported it to eBay but the problem is that the seller has specified only a tiny window of opportunity to return the item or there will be no refund at all. eBay advised the girl to go ahead and leave the feedback. There is a substantial amount of money involved.

Can anyone suggest a better solution?
