Why do eBay allow sellers to state they are in Australia when they are notFalse advertising

I bought some products from a seller who stated he was in Sydney only to find out he was in Hong Kong.

On his add it states fast postage ha ha, it will take a month for my product to get here according to the postage tracking.

And the seller states he is Sydney based "untrue". And has Australian flags and Australian post banners on his eBay site what a joke..

Why do eBay allow this does it not come under false advertising in Australia.

Do eBay even care or is it just about them getting money from sellers and do not care about the buyers rights.

I don't mind buying from outside of Australia and would be understanding about the wait but when told they are in Australia it is a lie and dishonest just to get consumers to buy as they think it is stocked in Australia.

I will be looking very closely from now on who i am buying from and where they are if i buy anything at all of eBay now.

If you want to know where a seller really is you have to check where they are registered (which you can see on their feedback page).

Sellers are allowed to indicate any location because some have warehouses here, or friends, but warehouses are often small (obviously they cost less to rent if they are small), so items quickly run out of stock and then they have to be ordered from overseas.

Last year I bought an item located in Sydney from a seller registered in Hong Kong (or China, I don't remember) with a warehouse here because he/she had very good feedback. The item itself was an auction and I won it for just over $10 with free postage. The item was indeed sent from Australia and arrived quickly, and I almost got it for free considering AusPost charges, but this does not happen all the time.

Check feedback and where the seller is registered before buying.

No

ebay do not check listings

Yes eBay allow the item location to be anywhere

Did the seller say he was in Sydney or the item was?

Where is the seller registered?

Is this the same seller who shows registered in Hong Kong and the feedback is horrible? 15 negs in the last month alone

The estimated delivery date is shown before bidding/buying

no need to ‘check carefully’. You just need to check these most basic of things which are clearly shown before buying
