Hi all
I have been purchasing on eBay/Paypal for 20 odd years.
About once a year I make a buyer protection claim on Paypal and it has historically all worked out really well. As a laywer, I like to think I put together a nice clear honest claim and have always had it paid really fast.
I never "push the envelope" on buyer protection to the extent that I could because my time of course has a value and I cannot afford to get into too much by way of protracted interaction. I really just need my money back quickly or I will just wear the loss and move on. With eBay/Paypal I have never had to wear the loss...until now.
It seems very clear to me that the split of Paypal from Ebay has not gone very well, because they recently fought me very hard on a simple straightforward small value claim which reached the absurd level of them disputing the veracity of an Australia Post tracked registered post parcel. Fine, they are not the company they once were and have lost my business!
So my question is how do I keep using eBay without Paypal, I note that eBay now has its own buyer protection but if I read the terms on the U.S. website (which I use a lot), these terms are different to the Australian ebay website. It is unclear to me if I am covered when I pay with my credit card on eBay Australia.
I will of course start to shift my purchasing to Amazon.com.au as this is utter nonsense - if I need to start reading guarantee terms and conditions and then find issues I have a major problem; but I still want to use eBay from time to time.
It will be hard for me to break my eBay habit altogether. Without my needing to spend hours of research on this, what is the best way of safely using eBay this days?
