inaccurate maximum bids

Hi, recently when I have placed a bid eg $1.39 I get a maximum bid of $139.00 entered on the site even though I haven't entered a maximum bid.  I have made sure I have only entered the bid both times.  A bit stressful waiting to see what happens to the bid.  Any answers welcome, thanks
