Hi there, have noticed a lot of sellers are stating in their auctions that they are charging an extra fee or a percentage to use paypal as a payment method?
I cannot find anything in announcements to show that anything has changed in regards to paypal and it says in ebay selling rules that this is NOT allowed?
for example - item #261246040144 - seller states there will be a 2% surcharge if paypal is used
Is this allowed?
Mate Payment Surcharges are not allowed, but eBay is VERY selective about what they allow., and seem to have a lot of double standards, and it seems to come down to what they make off an item themselves.
I inadvertently listed a couple of ads with a note breaking down how I derived the final price of a listed item, and mentioned that it included fees I would pay to Paypal. Those ads were removed the very next day by eBay.
Daily though in car ads I see the exact same thing mentioned, that if payment is made by Paypal the buyer must pay the Paypal fees, and yet eBay does nothing about removing those ads. I have reported several items in the past for this very thing, and the listing is still there days later and just proceeds to it's normal expiry date. I once rang eBay about that and they had no explanation. The ads we discussed were never removed, yet they clearly violated their Policy they were happy to ping me for.
Simply eBay appear to be happy to turn a blind eye if it means that when the item ends they will receive their maximum possible fee $750, like they would on a car ad.
