I only use my iPhone to respond and start new threads. Perhaps that is why I always get emailed. Never thought of that

Do you receive the emails instantly (or as close to) when someone replies? I only use a PC, and if I select to be emailed about responses, the earliest I receive them is a week after I post (due to that, I haven't used the option for a fair while, but I notice many OPs are still coming back to their thread for the first time 1 week later, so can only presume it's still happening that way for a lot of members, unfortunately).

I only get emails about posts in the groups but they come through almost immediately.....within a minute or so usually.

I get email notifications pretty much instantly when there is a new response.

I do / did get instant notifications about new threads in groups if subscribed, and instant emails alerting me to new posts if I wasn't the thread creator, but if I started the thread, it takes / took a week.

Well that would explain why so many newbies start a thread and then seem to go missing.   Too bad if it is something that needs urgent attention.

There is nothing stopping the creator of a thread, particularly with an urgent question, stopping back in every now and then to check for themselves...especially since they would know they are only going to be alerted in a week. It is the default setting, but you are alerted to the alert times :), the first whizz through.

Of course not everyone might pick up on that, but if one is anxious enough for help, you'd think a quick look on how things are going would be natural ๐Ÿ™‚

Of course it would be normal for us Amber but you would be surprised how many new posters think they are contacting ebay and demand a response.  It is not unusual in the AC for this to happen and the OP never comes back.  I am sure they are sitting in front of their computer screen complaining loud and long that ebay is ignoring them.

I wasn't alerted to anything, and all my settings are on "immediate" as far as forum notifications go - but I still only get notified re: my own threads a week later. When the forums were switched over to Lithium, I went through all my settings a couple of times and some stuff just never did what it's supposed to (eg I jump to first unread on these boards, but not in groups, despite trying every which way to set it up so that I would).  It might be different on different devices, but I can't imagine people would have to go through their settings re: notifications etc after signing in and going to start a thread, which is what most forum first-timers with a question would do, rather than checking their profiles etc.

Most people do come back and check, but some people don't seem able to find their threads again after creating them (so they go unchecked or we get duplicates either on the same board or a different one), and as lyndal said, others seem to be under the impression they've sent a message that will be responded to directly, so an email a week later (with a link to the thread), is probably the first time they know they've got some form of response and where to find it.
