An alert to the alert settings may depend on what software the forum is running the day one joins up.
I had one for a board question, and one for group alerts, for each "first".
if that is not the same for everyone, that still does not preclude anyone checking in to see if they have an answer.
particularly if they do not even know they will get an alert at all...let alone in a week. That makes it even more inexplicable.
as for people thinking they are asking eBay support a question in the answer centre, that is because of the way the text box is directly under eBay bumpf. Now that is misleading, but a separate issue, which needs eBay to redesign that page.

People often are, and do not always think or behave the same way others do, even if "others" refers to the majority. ๐

general stuff:
please anyone who asks a question
(1) know that you will not be notified of a reply for a week unless you enter your settings and change the time
(2) you can come back to your thread at any time, so bookmark the webpage to find it
(3) eBay support is top right, "customer support", then follow the prompts to get email, online chat and/or phone
(4) if that is too complicated, and sometimes it does run round in circles, the number is tel:1800088741
but they prefer you to get the one-off code you will be given if you try (3)

General stuff -
Anybody coming to the boards for the first time is unlikely to read any other threads, even this one. Witness the multiples on the same subject, even on the first page.

You'll get bored and come back.
There are really only about half a dozen questions anyway.

Aye, so the fun is in finding new ways to answer them.
What if, eventually, I can cultivate an answer that is universally applicable and solves all problems?
Depending on your definition of solved, and from what perspective, there might just be one that already exists. ๐
