Bidding on furniture is a waste of time. Ebay allows sellers to take listings off even if there are bids. The reason that it is okay to do this : "item is no longer available." Of course it's no longer available - a buyer has arranged to go and have a look at the item and then purchased it directly. Really, ebay is just a waste of time.

There will always be some that rort and break the rules, but there are thousands of sellers of furniture by auction in Australia who do the right thing.

Sellers can end an auction any time up until the last 12 hours and can cancel bids after that time.
They are not breaching any rules by doing so unless you have proof positive that it was advertised for sale elsewhere.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

OP some of the best buys I have made on ebay have been pieces of furniture.
IMO you just have to be persistent. Over the years I've saved $thousands$ and been able to pick up many higher end, quality pieces that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise.
