Can Software Unopened be Returned?

RE: Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 (word and excel) for PC New sealed Item Number: 221138925417

Hi Wondering if this can be returned  for a refund if it does not work on a no name branded pc, the picture indicates for hp or compac pc only but seller confirms will work on any pc when asked a question on the listing? If returns are refused on this listing or others software or non software do I have a leg to stand on during a dispute process if it ever happens?

I also would use paypal funded by a credit card don't know if either cover software once opened?

The brand of PC isn't really what determines software compatibility (unless is Apple Mac exlcusive, I suppose) - it's the operating system on the computer (Windows, Mac OS, Linux etc) and a few other specs, like RAM, all of which will or should be stated in the system requirements.

In the majority of cases, whether or not unopened software can be returned will be reliant on whether the seller allows returns for change of mind, so check their return policy and what requirements you will need to meet, plus what they provide (some may not give a refund but store credit).

The system requirements for software should be stated in the listing, so check those against your computer's, but often it's not possible to know whether older software will be compatible with newer operating systems and so forth, so unless the seller tests it themselves, or otherwise has reliable knowledge, it really is a matter of purchasing at your own risk.

If, however, the seller has expressly stated that the software will work on any computer and/or is compatible with any operating system etc, and it turns out to not work on yours, then you would have a case for a refund under Not As Described.

Didn't you ask in the answer centre? If so then my answer is the same as it s there, it is an OEM disk and so should only have been sold with the original hardware it came with.

It clearly says OEM on the disk!

Dont leave FB until you have installed and registered the produce with microsoft.

Have seen lots of sealed software that has had its serial # used in an office situation and when they upgrade sell of the old dics at auction in bulk lots.

If it is an OEM disk, you should report the seller as it is only meant to be sold with a new computer and not by itself

But, it is common for shopfront storts to do sell OEM with no computer, HN have tried it to me a few times

I have several OEM disks that are unopened but as the program was pre installed and registered  on the computer the disk should only have been used to re-instal on the same machine.

I did once manage to get a refund without return for an OEM program but it did not have OEM plastered all over the photo and it specified it was the full program.

I'm not entirely sure what the situation is with other Software, but with Operating systems an OEM disc will work, and if the key has been used before all you have to do is buy a new one from Microsoft via their website. You might be able to just pay for a new licence to use the software
