I bought an item that arrived faulty. The seller has agreed to a return but seems reticent about providing a return label or sending me money for postage. Before I ask ebay to step in, I want to give him the option of picking up the item from my home as we live only a few suburbs apart from each other. Would this be allowed by ebay? How do I make sure the return is processed and refunded when I don't have evidence of postage/tracking? Could the seller just process the refund while still at my home, after inspecting the item? Thanks.

That's the thing, isn't it?
If you don't follow the correct process, you cannot prove the seller took the item back, and you cannot make the seller give you cash on the spot for a refund
They could pick the item up *say* they will pay into your bank for example and never do so
Not saying they *would* do that, but if something like that did happen, then you are not covered by eBay
If they want the faulty item back, they do not get a say and have to provide a return postage label

Most sellers should be able to process a refund on the spot using the app. Ask them first and if they are still operating in the dark ages and are not able to then best to send and get a tracking number.

So this is your idea, not the seller's.
I would not suggest it to the seller at all.
I would go straight into an ebay claim, a proper ebay claim. That way the seller has to send a label, ebay supervises the process and you're not in some drawn out discussion, trying to negotiate with a seller.
If by any chance any seller did suggest picking up from your home (extremely unlikely) then the only way to allow it would be for a cash refund on the spot, at the point of pick up.
Just go directly through ebay with your claim. less messing around.
