Does ebay do anything about people selling fakes?

I recently bought fake micro sd memory cards from two different sellers.

One type was described as 32 gb. It was actually 4 gb faked to say it was 32 gb. If you save less than 3.7 gb, they work normally. If you save over 3.7 gb, data is not really saved, but gets lost or corrupted.

The other was described as 256 gb. It was actually 16 gb faked to say it was 256 gb. If you save less than 15.78 gb, they work normally. If you save over 15.78 gb, data is not really saved but gets lost or corrupted.

I ran tests on these to find out they were fake, and sent copies to the sellers.

I also complained to ebay.

I have been refunded.

These items are still for sale.

Many people only save a small amount of data in the beginning, and are not aware there is a problem. Many people dont test them. Some people dont realize until it is too late to get a refund.

Many people are being scammed.

Why does ebay not stop them?

Why does ebay allow people to be scammed?

Does ebay care if people are being scammed?

In reality eBay will not do anything about them, it's up to the buyer to do their research on the seller's feedback. Both of the sellers you left negs for had terrible feedback and you should have avoided them.

Most members here recommend not dealing with large volume sellers with less than 99.5% feedback.

I noticed one of the sellers was from China. Haven't checked the other one out.

The answer is there is a lot of fake or poor quality stuff coming out of China & nope, ebay doesn't seem to do anything at all to the Chinese sellers, they get away with stuff the average Australian scam artist can only dream of.

Computers, phones, electronics of any type etc seem to be higher risk buys on ebay though no matter where the seller is, so I'd tread carefully. Either buy at a real store or else choose a reputable Australian seller on ebay. Check out their feedback carefully before you commit to buy a thing.

Ebay Aust, to give them their due, has tried to tighten things up to make it safer for buyers & some sellers do get banned but basically these sorts of purchases are riskier so you'll need to do your homework.

You're right, a lot of other buyers may not realise there is a problem with the memory cards till too late. In your case, you were lucky & have your money back.

Then they wouldn't make any money.(they have no ethics the same as those sellers).

Why does ebay allow people to be scammed?

Because they can and the get a financial gain by allowing it.

No they don't care at all as these items have been regulary reported for over 5 years and they have never

made an effort to stop or ban these sellers or fake items.

They even made it more difficult to report fakes and they have nothing in their current report drop down boxes

that you can use that acciratly describes items as fakes.

They also removed the Email option for Help & Contact so you can't describe the problem to them.

It's getting towards Christmas and that generally means that more fakes and scam items will be listed for

gullible buyers to buy and eBay will do nothing to stop them,(I've given up trying to report scammers and

fakes as I just got sick of the headaches it caused)Angry head bang.gif

A lot of Aussie sellers buy these counterfeit items from China for dirt cheap prices and resell them with huge mark-ups.

Hence the buyer has no way of knowing the item even originated in China,

Just remember the old adage "You can't con someone who is not greedy".

I started another thread some days ago about 925 Sterling Silver and how everything under $10 is almost defnitely fake. I have almost no sterling silver items and yet I get a lot of questions from people asking "Is this sterling silver?", and when I reply "You cannot get sterling silver for $7" some of them go into a fit. People with no common sense set themselves up to be conned, and there are plenty of them out there.

If something is of value and it's coming out of China, I will be very, very suspicious of it. I know for a fact they also spit out fake precious stones cheap by the tonnes. I'm not sure I have much sympathy for greedy people with no common sense getting conned by obvious fakes. But when these people knowingly sell fakes on from within Australia, then that is criminal in my opinion.

But no, ebay will not do anything about it. Ebay is aware of the issue but will not lift a finger because ebay is like a flea market. Caveat Emptor is the motto here.

So what you're implying Springy is that my genuine Rolex that I got from an honest seller in China is a fake? But I paid a whole $20 for it. The ad said it was genuine. Thanks for ruining my Christmas and my life! I think I'm going to eat worms now 😄
