Am I under Ebay's sellers protection on a invoice? I bought an item which was under local pick up but buyer was happy to ship the item so I requested a invoice with postage on my expense so am I under seller protection?

If it was a picked up item then no
But if it is posted to you then you can not inspect prior to payment so you should be.
Maybe contact ebay to be sure if you are worried.

An invoice means nothing all that is saying is what is owed.
