Ebay's delivery tracking delivery dates are wrong

I recently purchased two items and receieved an email from eBay on 17th May saying they had been delivered to me. This is a lie. I actually received the items this morning  (19th May 11 am).

It seems to me that the delivery date used by eBay was not the date delivered to me but the date eBay's own carrier delivered it to DHL in Australia for delivery to me.

Fortunately, there is no problem with the item. Howver, what would the situation be if I complained that the item had not been received but eBay said it had?

I never rely on ebays delivery dates. As a seller its frustrating because Aust. post take longer to deliver than ebays dates say, and buyers often believe them and want to say INR.  Ebay will say an item has been posted while I'm printing the label and haven't even left home. I would rather manually mark it as sent, when it actually IS sent.

As a buyer I always add a few days onto ebays so I am not jumping up and down thinking its late. Aust. Post is slower now than it used to be. We just have to be realistic.

I purchased an item from eBay on 5th of May, it says that my order will arrive on 17th of May and I haven't got my order yet until now BUT the status is 'Sent. Is there any possibility that I could still get my order?

It depends on where you are and where the item is coming from, but it is quite a bit overdue.

The 'sent' status just means the seller is claiming it has been posted, it does not mean it has been delivered. There is a possibility it is just running late, that can happen with parcels.

I would message the seller to let them know there is a problem. If the item does not arrive soon though or the seller doesn't fix things up for you, then open an item not received claim to get your money back.

Don't let the seller delay you too long. No matter what they say, make sure you open a claim if the item has not arrived eg by the end of the month.

springy, they've got until 16th June to open a claim under the MBG, assuming 17th May is the last day in the expected delivery date range. Some things take the scenic route and travel halfway round Australia instead of going directly to where they should, so why punish the seller for it instead of giving it a good chance to turn up before opening a case? I've had a few items turn up a month after I posted them and I've been really grateful that the buyers have messaged me rather than opening a case long before the deadline.
