Ebay won't refund but have delisted the seller

Hi there, I've had a recent problem buying a product for $495.The seller had zero feedback and his paypal 'wasn't working'. It sounded fishy so I rang ebay and the operator advised me to tell him to initiate a manual paypal request and everything would be covered.

He (or she) then sent me the email address to send payment through paypal, which I did. As you'll probably guess, the item was not sent and the seller does not respond. I opened a case and it seems that the seller is now no longer listed on ebay. Ebay sent me a message saying that they will not refund but have given no reason. I opened an apeal and they responded with they're staying with their initial decision. But there's no reason given.

I'm really at a loss - I contacted ebay when it looked suspicious and followed their directions. I'm obviously a victim of fraud but ebay won't say why they won't refund. Does anybody know what I can do? Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Since you paid with Paypal open a dispute with then not ebay.

You may need to ring them on their toll-free number and explain the situation, have the transaction details ready to give them.

If you don't get a satisfactory outcome ask to speak to a supervisor.

if Paypal stonewall you, please come back. There are other avenues to recover your money, and it will usually cost Paypal if it needs to go that far.

However, Paypal should be your first point of call. if the seller can't prove postage to you, you should get a refund without too many dramas. As you didn't end up paying through the eBay system it is understandable that eBay aren't interested.

When you sent payment via paypal, did the seller send you an invoice from paypal?
Or did you send it for friends and family thing or for goods and services through paypal?

Folks - thank you! I'll start-up the same process through Paypal. It was a glass fronted fridge I bought supposedly from somewhere in Sydney. Anyway the payment jumped through various places and eventually went to someone called 巧凤 杨 whatever that means. Never received a reply to any of my messages again. I'll see what paypal do, but I thought it was the same company who rany Paypal as runs ebay.

I'll let you know what happens....

Best,

Paypal and eBay have been separate companies since last year sometime.

In that eBay sold Paypal. They have always operated as separate companies.

Well, that went better and easier than I thought it would. I disputed the payment for item not received and gave them the story and then escalated it to a claim. The day after the seller had to respond Paypal reimbursed the money and said they had claimed the money back from the seller (how, I have no idea). My paypal account was then credited with the $495 and I received a message saying that I didn't have to do anything else.

So, thank you guys! Very much appreciated. I was beginning to doubt whether I would buy anything else over $100 using ebay / paypal again. Confidence restored.

Kind regards,

That's fantastic news! Well done! Hopefully all the others he scammed manage to get their money back too. Sadly, there will be a percentage who don't because when eBay tell them they won't refund, they won't know to open a PayPal dispute.

Thanks for coming back to let us know the outcome.
