Hi all,
I'm very new to eBay and have made about 25 purchases in the past week or so. I'm yet to leave feedback for my purchases as I'm not sure what is appropriate timing. A bit of background, I paid for my purchases promptly, in most instances the goods I have bought have been shipped by the seller (s). But, I really can't leave feedback until the purchase cycle is complete .... can I? Until I receive the things I've bought, how can I leave honest feedback?
So, what's the etiquette involved? Am I annoying the seasoned eBay'ers by not leaving feedback if they've shipped the goods so promptly? I don't see how I can truly rate something I haven't received yet.
(I have left feedback for only one purchase, I just assumed that's what I was supposed to do - particularly given how quickly the goods were marked as shipped).
Thanks in advance 🙂

feedback is not an important part of the transaction process at all and insignificant
It is. Most people trade for goods, not feedback, regardless of what eBay says.
And you are fully aware that eBay's help is, at best, dated.

G'day,
i generally leave feedback a day of two after receiving the item. You'd be foolish to leave feedback before you receive it. As a seller I hope people leave feedback also within a day or two after receiving their item as this tells me that it arrived safely and they are happy with it. I've never had negative feedback, but i would hope the buyer contacts me before hand so we could resolve. a lot of buyers don't bother to leave feedback at all which is quite annoying.
thanks and enjoy your eBay experience!

some sellers charge excessive post to help increase the price of smaller value items .. i have no qualms about seller fees being added to post costs but anything more is a rip off.

It has been more than two months of 4 products purchased 22.11.2012. but not yet received.Seller not respond to messages.
Lots of people never received their product that they paid for from this Seller
After 60 days I can not leave feedback. Why?
I waited to come, I could not leave feedback before the product arrives but now there is no hope that it will arrive.
Items from within Oz should arrive within 7 -10 days Items from the US 10-15 The UK 10-15 HK 15- 25
add about 7 days and if item not received hit the Item not received button and do not close dispute no matter what the seller says until you have the item in your hand.
and then leave suitable feed back and stars

Its the total price I pay that is important to me.
If one sellers item is $10 with free postage and the second sellers is $1 + $9 for postage and both are from the same country and have the same FB then I will go with the first seller because I view them as more honest and not trying to avoid fees.

Don't forget packaging costs too. The bubblewrap mailers I use to post CDs/DVDs cost about $1.30 each, not including stamps or seller fees.

Well, as a Buyer I ALWAYS check the Sellers Feedback, particularly if it's an expensive item. Experience has taught me that it can often save me a lot of time, effort & heartache, especially with Sellers from 2 O/S Countries in particular. I look for trends in the Negative such as "Item Not As Described" & of cause the old Item Not Rec'd as well as whether or not they answer their e-mails & will always go elsewhere even if it costs a bit more.
As a Seller, I have a 100% Feedback Rating & cannot understand how you can say it doesn't matter to you. Ebay lists your item according to your Seller Ratings. I noticed that once I achieved that rating my Sales went through the roof as they were then listed closer to the top. I've also had Customers contact me before a Sale & said that they had noticed my Top Seller Rating, realised that I must give the appropriate service & asked for a little help or whatever on a sale such as getting an item posted late in the afternoon etc.....To me that's only good business practice anyway, but it has won a LOT of repeat business.
As for who leaves it first. I will only leave Feedback as a Seller if the Buyer leaves it 1st. It's my one way of knowing that the Buyer has rec'd it & is happy. I know Ebay does it anyway, but I will also send a personal message to follow up & asking if all is OK & if not pls contact me etc........But, after 2 of those, no Feedback from them means no Feedback from me.......

btw...If I may add: As a Sellar, I always cringe when I see a suucessful Bidder or Buyer with a low Feedback Score. I know we all have to start somewhere, but in around 50% of cases I've found that it means trouble. They either don't pay, which ties your stock up for 2 weeks or I've often suspected an opposition Sellar who has opened an Account in order to do just that. I know there's nothing I can do about it, but...........

I agree wholeheartedly. If you are a perfect Buyer, pay quickly, let the Seller know the item has arrived and you have left Positive feedback, and then they slap you in the face by not leaving any feedback for you, like as if your custom just wasn't appreciated at all, well, WHY would you go back there to buy again?? Feedback left for a good buyer is a token of appreciation for a purchase as far as I am concerned, and people who treat their customers badly don't deserve to have customers...I go elsewhere...Some sellers think they are above bothering to treat their customers nice, even treating them with some sort of condescending contempt.....I have come across a few of these, and I don't go back, very rude types I wouldn't want to deal with again...There are plenty of very good and appreciative Sellers on eBay, who have the manners to say they appreciate my business via feedback, the other type are really their own worst enemies, chasing customers away in droves. In the real world, if a shopkeeper is rude to me, snatched the money out of my hand without a thank-you then I wouldn't go back there either, the last one that did this to me is now out of business! I wonder why???? My advice, GO ELSEWHERE.
