Fire in AP facility - October?

Does anybody know if there was a fire in AP facility or truck between 28/9 and 7/10 ?

i bought large amount of poly pellets to put into toys (like in teddy bears), the box was delivered on the 7/10 in Melbourne coming from Brisbane.  I bought them well before I ran out  and only opened the box yesterday. :_|  The pellets have most horrible acrid smoke smell.

The seller swears that pellets from the same lot, which she still has at home are fine, and i tend to believe her.  I buy most of my supplies from her, and have done for years.  In that case they must have been exposed to fire in transit.

Any ideas?  If not about fires, how to get smoke smell out of plastic.  I cannot really afford to throw out 12 kilos.  😞  washing them and leaving them spread outside in the sun for a day did not do much so far.

Judy the smell of fire and cigarettes is very different.

After being a firefighter for 15 years I can assure you there is a very different smell.

If the smoke was from plastic and rubber that has the smell the OP as described as well.

Bicarb Soda also absorbs smells.

yes, it is acrid smoky smell you get from fire when burning plastic and rubber.  The seller assures me she does not smoke and nothing ever came from her smelling of cigarette smoke.

Well, i have one small bowl soaking some in vinegar and other small amount spread on a large plate with some Bicarb soda in a dish in the middle.   i am just kicking myself for not opening it earlier and not starting to do something with it immediately.   Will see what happens in the morning.

Sometimes just plain water will remove a smell from plastic.

If I have a smelly plastic pot that had curry or onion or similar stored in it, I just fill to the brim with cold tap water, put on the lid and leave for 24-48 hours.

If it is an item I put it in a stocking or similar so that I can use the loose bit of stocking for a lump of lead to weigh down the item (you don't want it to float to the surface) and put it in a container and fill with water and again leave for 24 - 48 hours.

I have never had a piece of plastic still smelly after soaking and it also does a lot to remove the stains caused by reheating curries in the microwave

try cat litter - wrap your beads in linen or cotton and then put in commercial cat litter

The carb soda would work better if you enclosed the beads and carb soda in a plastic bag or lidded container and sealed it.

Have you got a plastic garbage bin or something similar.

Also, Nilodor is fantastic...a few drops on a piece of fabric and seal it in a bag or container and leave for as long as possible.

You can get it at the supermarket, chemist or hardware shop.

I know pink Napisan mixed with water into a solution works great on cat wee, so no reason to think it wouldn't work on other smells as well. It has active enzymes in it that "eat" stains and smells.

Mix a slurry of Napisan (the one in the pink pot) with water and soak the beads in that.

I have tried the cat litter on books that smelled of cigarettes  - put them in a sealed bucked with cat litter for a week

I had to vacuum the books afterwards, they were a bit dusty, but the smell was gone.
