I have never bid on an auction before and have no idea about how things work. I won the auction but now believe I may have been duped. The item was listed for local pick up. I just assumed that after I paid for it on Ebay with Paypal and messaged the seller, they would reach out to discuss a date and time for collection. I have contacted them twice now but have not heard back from them. I am starting to think I have been robbed. I know it's only been a short time but this is new for me and I am a bit worried.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You haven't been robbed, settle down! Can you post the item number of the item you bought please? Part way down the listing on the right.
As it was an auction, the seller may not have got the amount they wanted. While the item should be sent regardless, some sellers will refuse to go through with the sale if it's well under what they were hoping for. If they continue to ignore you, in a week, open a dispute for item not received. Then, 4 days later ask ebay to step in and help so you get a full refund.
You may be able to open a dispute sooner. Keep checking daily until the option appears in the dropdown next to your item in your purchase history. I've not had to do it for a very long time, but I think it's called "I didn't receive my item".

Issue has changed now. The seller finally replied, but it wasn't a worded reply to my questions, it was just a photo of a pile of old stuff in someone's garage. Took me a minute to figure it out. It's just one piece of the baby bed that's lying under a whole lot of other stuff and not all together. All photos on the listing were of an intact item. I've messaged them, they've agreed to cancel but tell me they can't because they haven't got my money. Where else can it be? I've asked eBay to step in now.

They are lying to you, send them the link below and tell them to use that to cancel.

The seller has more than likely not signed up for Managed Payments, which is ebay's latest payment system. In the old days, most sellers would get paid by PayPal. While buyers can still pay with PayPal at the moment, sellers can't receive their money that way.
Your payment is probably in ebay limbo. Until the seller signs up for managed payments, they can't receive a single cent of any sale. HOWEVER, they can still refund a buyer. When they select to refund a buyer, the money comes out of ebay limbo and is returned to the buyer's funding source.
If your seller sounds genuine, and they feel they can't refund because they haven't received the funds, send them to this thread and we can help them out.

This is the worst advise ever, don't refer them to this forum, it is a forum of members who can do absolutly nothing for you.
Open a case through Ebay, Don't delay as your time is running out, referring it to other members with absolutely no power just chews up your time.

When something is a pick up item, you are best to pay cash on pick up. That way if you don't like the item when you see it, you can walk away, refuse to go through with the sale. I did that once for an item that was not as described.
I think sons & daughters is right. This sounds like one of those occasional sellers who may not know how ebay works & perhaps they have not signed up for managed payments. Until they do, they will never see their money.
And.. even if they have signed up, if they only sell things occasionally, the money is usually on hold for 30 days.
A seller is still supposed to send or arrange pick up immediately because payment has been made, it is just the funds aren't released to the seller immediately. Any seller who read up about terms and conditions would know this.
I do believe sugar is right in her advice that the best thing to do at this point is open a claim through ebay. You don't have the item, the seller cannot supply any evidence you have the item, so the seller will lose the case and you will get a refund. You need to do this immediately as you only get 30 days after sale/delivery date in which to open a claim.
Once it is opened, do not close it under any circumstances, no matter what the seller may promise. Keep it open, follow it up so you can finalise it a few days later and get your refund. The seller is claiming they don't know how to refund or can't refund, they are obviously clueless. You are not reliant on them. Go through ebay.
