If the only payment method is by PayPal then you will need to open a PayPal account if you don't already have one and you will then need to add a bank account and you can also add your mastercard which will be used as a method of payment if your PayPal account has no funds in it.

you dont need an account to use pay pal to make payment as long as you have a creidit card you can pay for items upto $1000.00 and you dont need to join pay pal to do so.

Although you can pay with a card as a guest it is much better to open a Paypal account unless you are never going to buy anything on ebay again, it is the only protected payment method most sellers offer. It is also easier if there is a fault with the item or it doesn't arrive, to make a claim you have to open a Paypal account using the same email address you used when making the guest payment.

Your PayPal account doesn't need to have funds in it to make a payment. you can choose bank account as a funding source and  the money will come directly out of your bank account. However, you will need to add a Credit/Debit card to PayPal for the payment to be instant or else it can take up to a week to process
