It's too late then to retract your bid if it's minutes, but yes, wrong bids can be retracted by bidder or seller depending on the timing.

If you ask a seller to cancel a bid, they don't have to.

All you can do is to ask the seller (if you win it) to initiate a mutual cancellation request, which you will then agree to, so that the seller will get their final value fees back for that sale.

The seller doesn't have to do this, and can hold you to the sale if you are the winning bidder.

If they don't agree to start a cancellation, and you don't pay, the seller could open an unpaid item dispute after four days.

That gives you four more days to pay, or you will get an unpaid item strike against you.

If you get a few of these, you can be blocked by sellers from bidding on their items, so be careful about that.

When there is less than 12 hours remaining on an auction, a bidder can still retract their bid within one hour of placing it (if they placed the bid earlier, then once there is only 12 hours or less to go, they can't retract).

If you click on the bidding history of the item, there is a link there to the bid retraction info / form, however with only a few minutes to go it might be cutting it a bit fine (and presumably it's too late this time around).
