I bought 2 tupperware containers for which I paid $38 plus $14 for postage. When I opened the parcel a revolting bad musty smell came out.
I have put them through my dishwasher 4 times and soaked them for 24hrs in Milton and 24hrs in strong Dettol but they still smell real bad.
I have asked several people how they smell and everyone reports awful!!
I have messaged the seller and received no response.
There is no way these containers could ever be used for food.I can't even begin to think where they have been or what may have been stored in them.

ick, I wouldn't be using them. ask for a refund. if you get no answer from the seller just open an item not as described case from your purchase page.

unfortunately, having tried to clean them may preclude the OP from receiving a refund for Item Not As Described as they are not able to return the items in the same condition they were in when received. Tough, I know, but this is my understanding of the PayPal claim process.
OP, if you go down the Item Not As Described path it would help if you just say that the containers have a bad smell that was not disclosed in the listing WITHOUT explaining that the smell remains even after cleaning.

Great point k1ooo. Makes sense to me even though Not as decribed would a far better description. For sale, 2 Tupperware Containers that have an awful smell about them and wont come out. You can try to clean them, but unfortunately it wont help !!! The smell is there for good.

It still an item not as described case and not fit for the intended purpose.
I suspect that the main problem for the OP now will be that they have already told the seller that they tried to clean the tupperware. The OP will just need to refer eBay/PayPal to messaqes to see that the item will not be returned in the same condition as received.
I think it will end up being a $52 lesson for the OP.

Paypal used to exclude smell as a reason for SNAD - can't find it in the current user agreement though.
If OP opens case I would go for that the item is unusable and was not disclosed as such - and that attempted surface cleaning did not alter the goods in any way or form and that it is still in the original condition smell and all
Honesty is the best policy in a paypal claim imo.

OP I'd give white vinegar and bicarb a go. You need a runny paste consistency - sprinkle container bottom with bicarb and then pour over vinegar - it will fizz and bubble - then use a toothbrush to rub in sides of container. Worth a shot i reckon.
