I have a PO Box. If a seller can't/won't deliver to a PO Box, it often means that they are using a courier.

You could ask them if they could use Australia Post.

Alternatively, if I have to buy from a seller who doesn't ship to PO boxes, I enter my address the following way:

My name

12345 (Box number) Sweet Street Post Office

111 Sweet Street

SWEET

QLD 4000

I have never had any problems and my packages have always arrived .... I do know my PO staff quite well, though.

I select this address in Paypal when I pay.

As stated if a seller is using a courier ten they won't usually deliver to a PO box, that is the seller's choice and nothing to do with ebay.

Also keep in mind that if buying from the US there will probably be no way you could get them to post to a PO box as it is a completely different system over there and they do not have buyer protection for PO box deliveries.

Hi PJ,

Can you point me to the relevant section on Ebay.com that says they have no buyer protection for PO Box deliveries as I can't seem to find it. I don't usually buy from the US but have one on the way. I recently changed my delivery address to our PO box as it is far safer than cards in apartment block letterboxes that seem to get broken into frequently.

Another alternative would be to get it sent to a friend or relative with a street address.

There is the possibilty that your seller sells internationally, and has chosen 'Does not post to PO Box' as an excluded location (a 'location' they don't post to).

The system allows you to bid, but it then doesn't allow you to pay. Your seller can override this by sending you an eBay invoice. This will allow you to proceed with payment. Just send the seller a message.

I used to have this exclusion when I sold internationally (but I don't sell internationally any more). In some countries, where procedures aren't strict for PO Box collection, PO Boxes can easily be stolen from because they are in one big collection room (it is an honesty system--larger parcels are just left in that room and everyone who goes in there has access to them).

There was no way for me to single out Australia or other countries from this. It was 'all PO Boxes in the world or none at all'. Your seller could be cautious because they may have had difficulties posting to PO Boxes across the world.

If you check the 'Postage & Payments' tab on a listing before buying, it should mention that 'PO Box' is an excluded 'location'. You can then enquire with the seller prior to purchase. Your seller can agree to an exception by sending through an invoice after purchase.
