I discovered a seller reselling the exact second hand computer over and over again using a different user account each time.
A search through 'complted listings' shows this item has sold many times now.
I suspect it is someone using 'phishing' techniques to get user names and passwords, then using that user account to sell expensive items then never deliver them. I have tried multiple times to report this to ebay but nowhere can I explain my suspicions, only report the item number.

It all makes me very concerned about buying expensive items via ebay anymore. If I bought an item via paypal that never came because it was a con listing, would paypal re-imburse me the loss even though the 'seller' had already withdrawn the funds?
jazzyrose, Yes, of course, paypal would reimburse you, that is what PayPal Buyer Protection is all about, not how much money is in the sellers account.... paypal chase that themselves. You really should read up on Paypal's Terms and Conditions to know how well covered you, as a buyer, really are.
of course eBay had to remove your post, imagine if everyone with a grudge, or a competitor (not saying you are either, but just imagine) and they all tried to badmouth their competition by making acusations, without real factual backup (no mtter how things really look).... ebay would be a nightmare
experienced eBayers such as go-taz and others here (particularly on the highjack hunters threads), know how to report to get such items removed, and you should report anything you suspect is suspicious, but leave the rest to eBay.
with 100million + transactions occurring world wide every day, they have their work cut out finding all these scammers, but believe me they do try to stop as many as possible.

Have I misunderstood? If they keep saying it is second hand, then it isn't fraud... maybe they have two dozen of the same thing????
Or maybe the family is listing it one after the other.... still, providing it is listed a second hand there is not problem.
No one can 'get user names and passwords' unless suddenly eBay is giving them out to everyone.

The accounts are hijacked when the account holder clicks on a link in a phishing Email sent by the scammer.
The account holder then logs into a fake site and gives the scammer their password,(which then allows the scammer access to that account).
It happens on a regular basis and it's up to the account holder to only ever log in via a secure portal,(when they don't,they leave themselves wide open to scammers).
As posted elsewhere, these type of scam items are reported and removed.
Sometimes it's harder for T & S to see what is going on as the scammer removed their photo description after the item has sold and it then just looks like a normal listing.
