Sorry, I'm a little confused. Did you buy 2 of the same thing and only want one? Did you buy different things off the one seller and want to combine postage? If you accidentally bought 2 and only want one, send the seller a message and apologise profusely and ask if they can cancel one. When they send the cancellation request, ACCEPT it as soon as you get it.
If you bought several things off the one seller and want to combine the postage to save, go to one of the items in your purchase history and in the drop down on the right, select request total from seller. If it's not there, click on Pay Now and when you go to the next screen, request total should be there.
If I am wrong on both accounts, you might need to try and explain what you've done a bit differently!

there is no ''backing out'' at the payment step, you have bought them..... whether you paid or not they are your purchases (and still need to be paid for)

If you bought two items from the same seller, you could message the seller and ask seller can combine items at invoice and reduce postage if the two items can be sent together.

Did they say immediate payment required? If so then you have to pay for each one as soon as you buy it, you cannot combine items and pay together and the item will remain active and available to other buyers until you pay.
If you have purchased more than one item from the same seller and they were not immediate payment required they should be in your purchase history, if the seller offers a combined postage discount just go through to checkout and there is a link there to request an invoice.
