I bought 4 x pairs of baby socks (each was one auction) and the postage from VIC to NSW was going to be $10 per pair. They 'discounted' it from $40 to $30. I asked a few questions and was given the okay to send my own pre-paid, pre-addressed 3kg bag (which cost me $11.70). Now they are refusing to put the bag in the post & want me to arrange collection. I"m in Sydney and they are in Melbourne.
I copied the part of the correspondence to ebay customer complaint.
(quote) Please organise some else to pick up this item and post it to you. I am sure you have experience with ebay and you know some people make extra money on postage just like i do. I will accept the plastic satchel but I am sorry I will not waste my time walking / drive to post the item this for nothing. Let me know when you have find the person to help you to post the item Thanks (end quote from seller)
Has anyone got a response from customer support about unfair behaivour/ bad service/ postage pirates?
note: I looked up their house on google maps and there is a post office less than 1km from their home. Love google maps.

It appears that they both may have the same opinion about this matter.
I messaged the seller about something else they had listed and asked for the weight and dimensions of the box as postage is listed as $25 Standard Postage.
I received an answer giving me the approximate dimensions of the box, (because the lengths of the blades were in the listing, so an estimate of how big the box was given), and told it weighed 2 kg.
The dimensions: 32cm x 5cm x 4cm.
This was then followed up with: (sic)
"If you wish to have a different postage levy applied, you'd need to arrange item local pickup. For us to post, our costs are listed. Tks,"

The thing is, I never mentioned postage cost, I merely asked the weight and dimensions of the box.

Now, I'm reasonably certain, that even if the item were packed with enough protection to send a condom factory broke, that this would fit into a 3 kg satchel at a cost of about $11.75 - $13, isn't it?
Not sure about the cost if the seller chooses to use their own packaging or a box, as is their right to do.... but $12.50 vs $25 sure is a pretty big difference, eh?
It costs me less than that to get stuff from the US.

What about cubing rules if they aren't using satchels? Though don't for a minute think I am trying to make excuses for excessive postage charging. Personally I think it is dirty if it beyond the inclusion of a moderate 'handling' fee. For those that feel they have to add in handling fees. I would like to think any decent seller would want to do the right thing by the buyer and only charge what is absolutely necessary. It is amazing what some people try to do and seemingly get away with.

just rereading their response, I am wondering if they would be audacious enough to charge a "levy" for pick up items?
I mean "to have a different postage levy applied"......
*shivers*
Surely not?

Even if you boxed them, the box would probably fit into a satchel, are these the saw blades Crikey? which ever way you look at it, it still would not cost $25, Pretty clear they will charge a big fee even for pick up items.
Now we are all wondering what ID the Hubby trades under aren`t we ?:|

I am working near Ringwood on Monday finishing around 3pm and Park orchards is 10 mins away.
If you tee it up no problem, just personal message me here.
Aside, I found a womens handbag with purse, money, keys rings, everything a few days ago and handed it in. Got some lovely text messages saying I don't know how much it means to her.
Today did another good deed to a Chinese gent. He then starts counting out money and I tell him I don't want anything. After explaining 5 times that this is what I do, he sticks the folded notes in my pocket and doesn't want them back. He leaves and I look to see he has given me 6 $50 notes, $300. So now I am making some charity donations. Karma maybe. 🙂
sounds like you are paying it forward and I hope you are rewarded many times over

Monday update: messaged them to see if bag arrived & also to send new invoice.
responded: bag not arrived but will advise.
Invoice sent (and now paid) for socks (no postage)
maybe the weekend has cooled everyone down. 🙂

awesome, good to know they didn't try to charge you a handling fee for the pick up item.....
I hope they don't tamper with your satchel and they return it to you unused if your socks do get picked up.
Fingers crossed that this is nearly the end of it for you and that those socks will be on the baby's feet soon.

Lets hope so. It's these types that give all sellers a bad name. I often find that buyers expect a bad experience and are so grateful when they don't get one. Make sure you let us know the outcome.

So we all agree that the seller handled this very badly but you have now paid with Paypal for what is effectively a pick up item as no postage was included in the payment so have NO buyer protection and you also expect the seller to package up the items and put them in your packaging without paying even 50c each in handling charges?
Personally I think you are a match made in heaven;-)
