On a cancellation the seller refunds during that process and is then automatically credited the FVF.

I still have had no luck in the seller cancelling the sale. I just recently contacted Ebay about the issue to see if I get any help there, not holding my breath though.

Why does it matter if the seller cancels the transaction or not?

You have your refund and if the seller has not cancelled he is out of pocket for his fees.

As soon as you were refunded the transaction will go back into your Purchase History and will remain there until it is automatically archived.   If it annoys you just be being there you can hide it yourself.
